The highly-awaited second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel debuts on the streaming platform this week, and fan speculation has been rampant.
The first season presents a diverse group of personalities residing in Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other accompanied by songs detailing their conflicts, and builds heated competitions and angsty, affectionate connections that drive fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for the new season vary widely, but certain threads emerge over and over: Could a fan-favorite character break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" constraining Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with fan service as the main goal," the creator stated earlier this year. "But I feel like me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also am eager for these things, and I want some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator reveals her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by the production companies, which produce the series.
That could imply fans have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how quickly the new season moves, and how many of what they're anticipating unfolds this season.
"I feel like people are going to be highly satisfied," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we get some really amazing disclosures, some really cool origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the guesses and hopes about the upcoming season — particularly in the format of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a few fans create a prediction grid about season 2," she says. "Naturally I can't post it, but I've actually done a few items, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on Prime Video on October 29.
